I am currently working as a relief teacher (general class K-6 and PE) in various primary schools and as an English and Mathematics tutor for the Dyslexia SPELD Foundation.
I have been teaching for 15 years and have 6 years of full-time teaching experience; further to a teacher-training year during which I specialised in PE, Mathematics and History. I have taught mixed ability classes from years K-6 and pride myself on creating a safe and inclusive learning environment. In addition to teaching all subjects within curriculums in England, Singapore and Australia, I have been Assistant Head of Mathematics and a PE and Equal Opportunities Coordinator. During my career as a teacher I have been observed numerous times. Whilst working at Tanglin Trust School, Singapore, I was classed as an ‘outstanding teacher’ by the British regulating authority - OFSTED.
I took a break from full time employment in order to raise our two boys, aged 9 and 7. I found this time extremely enjoyable and valuable in setting the foundations for my sons’ future. It has also ignited my passion for exemplary education. My eldest son has been diagnosed with severe dyslexia and sensory processing disorder. This led me to embark on the training to become a specialist teacher for the DSF. I am now able to support him and others with dyslexia and dyscalculia. I am fully trained in the Sounds-Write linguistic phonic programme and have attended the course Understanding Learning Difficulties. In addition, last year I worked part time as a physical education teacher at West Balcatta Primary School. I found this role rewarding and enjoyed working as part of a team.
In order to be successful in the role of a Mathematics and English Tutor, I have become familiar with the Australian Curriculum across the primary ages. I have explicitly taught concepts that students are finding difficult and have used appropriate assessment in order to plan progressively for each individual. I have furthered my knowledge of the Australian Curriculum by attending a professional development course, through relief teaching and by self-directed study.
